The Alpha First-Year Orientation Camp took place from October 7th and 8th october with the primary objective of welcoming and integrating first-year students into IEEE. The camp was organized by IEEE SB GECW and saw active participation from both students and faculty. The camp aimed to build a sense of community, foster friendships, and provide essential information to help newcomers navigate their academic journey with IEEE
ALPHA- EXPERT TALK
The IEEE SB at GECW was privileged to host an expert talk by Mr. Muhammed Zainul Zidan, the past chair of the IEEE Student Branch at our university. This event was an opportunity for the students to gain valuable insights from Mr. Zidan, who has not only been an active member of the IEEE community but was also recognized as the Best Humanitarian Student Volunteer in 2022. Mr. Zidan’s talk revolved around his experiences and journey as an IEEE volunteer, emphasizing the significance of humanitarian work within the realm of engineering and technology. He provided a deep understanding of the role IEEE plays in advancing technology for the betterment of society. Mr. Zidan stressed the importance of IEEE’s commitment to humanitarian initiatives. He discussed the various projects and programs initiated by IEEE to address global challenges, such as sustainable development, accessibility, and disaster relief. The expert talk by Muhammed Zainul Zidan was a highly informative and motivational event. It highlighted the pivotal role that IEEE plays in humanitarian efforts and how individuals like Mr. Zidan can make a substantial impact in this regard. ALPHA-MD SESSION
The session was designed to introduce the incoming students to the benefits and opportunities available through IEEE and the IEEE Kerala Section. Mr. Jithin K. Jose discussed the role and activities of the IEEE Kerala Section, emphasizing its commitment to supporting and nurturing young talents in the field of electrical and electronics engineering. He elaborated on the numerous advantages of IEEE membership, including access to technical resources, networking opportunities, and career development support. He also introduced the concept of IEEE Student Branches and encouraged students to actively participate in their respective branches. He highlighted some of the key events and activities organized by the IEEE Kerala Section, such as conferences, workshops, and competitions, to showcase the practical benefits of IEEE membership
ALPHA- HANDS ON WORKSHOP ON GIT AND GITHUB
The “Hands-On Workshop on Git and GitHub” was a dynamic and informative session conducted by Rohin Raj S B, a dedicated member of the IEEE Link Team in 2022. This workshop aimed to provide participants with practical knowledge and skills in using Git and GitHub, essential tools for modern software development, and collaborative coding. One of the key objectives of the workshop was to promote collaboration among participants. Rohin explained the concepts of forking and branching, demonstrating how these techniques can facilitate group projects and open-source contributions. Throughout the workshop, Rohin shared best practices for using Git and GitHub effectively. He emphasized the importance of writing meaningful commit messages and resolving conflicts in a codebase. Rohin Raj S B’s “HandsOn Workshop on Git and GitHub” was a resounding success. Participants gained valuable insights into the world of version control and collaboration through practical exercises and demonstrations. The knowledge and skills acquired in this workshop are invaluable for both novice and experienced software developers
